What You Should Know

What is Resilience?
Resilience is the ability to withstand or recover from difficult conditions. It allows us to think clearly, make intentional choices, communicate, and connect with others during stressful situations. Our resilience can be affected when we have frequent or long exposure to toxic stress from ACEs (especially when we don’t have protective factors to act as our “adversity buffer”).
What is a trauma-informed approach?
A trauma-informed approach is a framework for addressing the origins of a challenge so we can build resilience, achieve higher quality outcomes, and break the cycle of intergenerational trauma. When we apply a trauma-informed approach, we realize the symptoms ACEs can cause, dig deeper to recognize the root causes of these symptoms, and respond to the underlying need. This process allows us to resist going back to old habits and to create more resilient organizations and communities.

Praise from Past Participants
“The Resilience Champion Workshop Series helped start our team of direct care providers on our recovery path out of COVID. We felt stressed, fatigued, and our care tanks were empty (for ourselves and for our clients). With this workshop, we have been able to reconnect with why we do our work, and identify what we need to do our work as individuals and as an agency. With this knowledge we have been able to set a path as a team in which we share common language, goals, and needs. Recentering to this space has allowed us to start the hard work of understanding what we need and want our work to look like, then start implementing the change needed to get there as a team.”

“I was truly fearful of what it would mean for us to become a trauma informed organization. I had heard from other leaders of how much time and resources they had put into their own efforts that I wondered whether this would be sustainable for us. However, Lori and Andi broke the concepts down for us in a way that was very bite-sized. Now I have no fear about being able to sustain our trauma informed care journey.”
